Among the reports of death and devastation, the story of an elderly Fijian man sheltering under a piece of corrugated iron spurred Christchurch man Sunny Nambiar into action. Born in Fiji, Nambiar said around 30 members of his family live in Fiji and with power and phone lines still down, he knew he had to help.
Nambiar has corralled the Fijian-Indian community in Christchurch to support his urgent plan — send a container of essential supplies to Fiji in the wake of Cyclone Winston which hit Fiji late on Saturday. When Sunny approached SB Global Logistics, we were only to happy to donate our time and resources to make sure the container arrived in a timely manner. We worked closely with Hamburg Sud that donated the container and NZE that moved it around Christchurch free of charge.
